Restaurant News Week of Feb. 22-26
Rocky Top Hospitality has opened their latest concept, Tribeca Tavern located at the corner of High House and Davis Drive in Cary. Right now they are just serving dinner, but will open for lunch beginning March 8th and Sunday brunch on March 14th...Last Sunday, Rockwood Filling Station in Durham closed, but the space won't remain empty for long. The owners of The Original Q Shack have announced plans to open "The Fish Shack" as early as March...In Cary, Lou Moshakos has closed the steak and seafood restaurant Bentley's at Crossroads and plans to open Flat Eddie's in its place by May...Taste of India in downtown Raleigh and Green Leaf in Durham, two Indian restaurants, have closed with no evidence of plans to reopen...MindWorks Multimedia presents the 4th Annual Empty Bowls benefit for the Community Café on Friday, March 5th, 2010 from 5:30-8:00pm at The Durham Armory. Come and taste soups from some of the area's finest restaurants. More information here...Earlier this week, the tax man threw some padlocks on the doors at The Third Place Coffeehouse in Raleigh's Five Points. But word is they reopened this morning at 6 a.m. Yea!... Get a $10 gift card to Bahama Breeze by visiting their website here... Raleigh-based K&S Cafeteria has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but will remain "in business and will continue to serve all of our loyal customers."...and last, but not least, beginning March 6, Spize Cafe will be open for lunch on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Market Restaurant will open in early March on N. Blount Street just north of downtown with a philosophy of "Local Ingredients, West Coast Inspired"...Natty Greene's will open their Raleigh location on Monday March 15th in Glenwood South ...Angus Barn's week-long wine celebration will conclude with a wine tasting this Sunday from 3:30-5 pm and it is free...Listen up Paula Deen fans, her Saturday show in Charlotte has been postponed...The owners of Capital Club 16, at 16 W. Martin Street, recently confirmed that they will be opening this spring. No hard date yet...Savoy Restaurant has its own iPhone application! It can be downloaded free from the Itunes store. Pretty slick...April 24-25, 2010 are the dates of the 15th Annual Piedmont Farm Tour. If you've never gone, you really should...If you are in and around downtown Raleigh the week of your birthday, stop by the Spize Cafe on Fayetteville Street for a free entrée. Just bring your photo ID... We are sad to announce that due to failed lease negotiations, Bacaro's Food & Company Catering has closed. Our best to Ken and Alix on finding new space...and soon!...Burger King is getting it their way, raising the price of its double cheeseburger from $1 to $1.19. That jingle won't work anymore... And finally, this week Chef James Yott Boyle took over from David Mao at the Duck & Dumpling. Don't expect many changes though (thank goodness!).

Noticed demo work and possible construction at the old Anotherthyme site in Durham. Space prep? Or new eatery? Too early to tell...Yancy's reopened January 24th as Yancy's at Farmington, located at 2800 Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh...Amedeo's on Western Blvd. is under new ownership and will be closed February 15-17 for renovations. New owner David Harris says to expect everything to stay the same, just some updated décor and signage...Frazier's (one of the Urban Food Group restaurants) will be closing after Valentine's Day, reopening later in 2010...speaking of re-opening, Fins in downtown Raleigh recently closed, but has reopened as bu*ku, check it out...Red Hot & Blue at 1900 Hillsborough Street has closed for good...In its latest issue, Restaurant News included Raleigh's Angus Barn on its prestigious "NRN 50" list of All-American Icon restaurants, congrats!...Domino's recently celebrated $1 billion in online sales, which means FREE Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes to anyone that enters the promotional code "HUG" at checkout...
